The 'trans-seasonal wardrobe' is a confuddling beast, for a society brought up on two wardrobes: summer and winter. And even then, the lines betwixt the two are blurry. We often wear floral summer dresses with black tights in the winter and sturdy black boots with our denim cut-offs, come summer. But some pieces seem destined to take only the briefest sojourn from the dank and dusty confines of your wardrobe. Crocheted camisoles, for example, are only fit for a tanned decolletage, whilst kaftans know not even to bother coming out of hibernation, until they smell the Easyjet touch down.
It's no wonder, then, that Autumn and Spring can be the hardest months to dress for. Despite the promises of impending winter, I have been sweating like a marine this week, in my faux fur coat and am not quite ready to abandon all vestiges of my sartorial summertime persona. You could rightfully assume that more than any other item in your summer wardrobe, the crop top needs a tanned midriff and non-glacial temperatures. These things are both true, so if you can't quite dare to bare (though Rihanna and Rita both show that come night fall, when paired with a pencil skirt, it's one helluva sexy look) follow my lead and layer a silk shirt underneath for daytime wear. An interesting play on volumes and layers, it's far more wearable than you think. Let me know your thoughts -- I'm aiming for a hit single.

I'm wearing a vintage silk shirt, a Zara crop top, Zara shorts, Zara patent loafers and a Topshop bag.
